Woolwich Contemporary Open Call 2023
Essential Information Before Entering Artworks!
Title & Attribution
If you do not enter a title, your work will be labelled 'Untitled'. Multiple untitled works will be numbered e.g. 'Untitled #1'. You can change the default attribution for each work - E.G. if you want to add a collaborator's name. If you specify a collaborator, you'll be asked for their email in case we need to get any rights clearances from them.
Discipline, Themes, Colours etc
Collectors don't just buy at the Fair: they also browse our online channels and may be particularly interested in works that share your themes, colours or techniques.
Optionally click on the 'Other' discipline option to add information about:
materials, themes etc etc;
unique variations in an edition (e.g. hand finishes)
Dimensions
Make sure you enter the dimensions of the PHYSICAL MEDIA (centimetres only accepted), not the size of the printed image. Do not include the frame unless it is integral to the work. Depth measurements are for 3D works only.
Edition
Please ensure you have your edition strategy worked out for each work before applying. Once declared, edition sizes cannot be changed later! The edition size is the number actually printed (or to be printed) NOT the number available for sale, which is entered separately.
The category of 'Unique Work' is reserved for monotypes etc. Don't select it just because:
you're entering a single print from an edition just because you only have one left!
the works in your edition have variations (eg hand finishing/colouring) making them 'unique'.
If the latter is the case, you should enter additional notes about hand-finishing and other variations in the Discipline 'Other' section (see above).
Framing
All works should be professionally framed for hanging. If your work can only be displayed unframed, you will need to provide technical guidance before the Fair.
We recommend using Woolwich Contemporary Framing Service: this was launched to help provide you with simple, high quality framing at the lowest possible prices and it also ensures that your work will be delivered safely to the Fair. Depending on the dimensions of each work, we may be able to display an estimated basic framing charge - you can always add additional custom options when it comes to ordering.
Pricing & Commission
Enter the 'label prices' for each work: the price you want your collector to pay at the Fair (from which WCPF commission will be deducted). If you are VAT registered, do not include the VAT component.
WCPF takes 40% commission (plus VAT) on the unframed label price of sold works (there's no commission on frame costs unless the frame is integral to the work). If you are submitting a work to be sold 'framed only', we will ask you for the cost of the frame itself, so that we can calculate how much to pay you.
This year Woolwich Contemporary will continue to support portfolio values by providing extended provenance support for clients, including blockchain Certificates of Authenticity and inclusion of works sold in the National Arts Archive. A discretionary £5 will be added to the label price to contribute towards the cost of this service.
Image Uploads
Your image is the most important part of your application. Make 100% sure you abide by the following (get a friend to help if in any doubt):
Uploads must be in JPG, JPEG, or PNG format. We do not accept HEIC or other formats. Be absolutely certain that you have exported the image to one of the allowed formats. Please do not change the file extension simply to force the system to accept your upload!
Your artwork image must be no more than 4Mb in size. To be of sufficient quality, it should have at least one dimension larger than 300px (pixels). Be patient: images may take a while to upload on slower connections.
Please ensure the filename includes letters, numbers and spaces only (no commas or other special characters). Ideally, it should have the same name as the artwork.
In order to maximise your chances of a successful application please ensure that your image:
is taken straight on, and not at an angle;
is in good light, without incident shadows;
shows the whole of the work!
