Charlotte Bearn, Tagsmart Managing Director says:

“I'm delighted to be joining Tagsmart as we close in on our Seedrs funding. Today, only 8% of art sales are online, with buyer trust being a key barrier. Tagsmart is the right company to change this for the art community: our cutting-edge tagging technology and our new, verified online marketplace are just our first steps towards creating an art market that enables artists and buyers to trade art online, with trust. .”

Tom Toumazis MBE, Tagsmart Executive Chairman says:

“Co-Founder Steve Cooke and I carried out an extensive search to find someone with the right combination of commercial, entrepreneurial and leadership skills. Charlotte ticked all those boxes plus a lot more!  Her energy and enthusiasm for our company and our ambition to be a global leader in art authentication and online retailing made her the by far leading candidate. We are so thrilled to have her join us at such an exciting part of our growth. ”

We are crowdfunding and we would love to have you on board!

Join us on our journey and share in our success.

The Cultivist: the global art club announces strategic partnership with Tagsmart

TAGSMART is delighted to have entered into partnership with The Cultivist, the world’s leading arts club offering collectors unique access to museums, galleries and art fairs worldwide.

This collaboration launches with the tagging and certification of 300 limited edition prints by renowned Latin American artist Gaston Ugalde (b. 1944). The work Red Orange (2015) focuses on the development of the artist’s colour theories . Ugalde’s creative process celebrates experimentation by mixing performance and installation. No digital manipulation is used in the creation of this work.

Each print has been tagged using the Tagsmart’s synthetic DNA tagging system to secure the authenticity and provenance of the work. The prints come with a certificate of authenticity produced exclusively for members of The Cultivist as part of the Artist Edition Series. The Series focuses on sharing the most exciting talents from emerging markets in countries all over the world.

Georgie Borthwick, Director of Corporate Partnerships at Cultivist said: “As the global arts club dedicated to making new connections across the art world, it is important to us to promote new technologies that help our collaborating artists, galleries, and institutions to continue their fantastic work. What we learned from the Knoedler fakes scandal

Are collectors “stupid” to spend millions of dollars on a work of art without personally investigating its authenticity? This is what Robert Storr, the former dean of Yale University School of Art argues.

Storr was speaking at a panel hosted by Ifar (International Foundation for Art Research) in New York in July about the issues raised by the Knoedler fakes scandal, which resulted in the illustrious New York gallery’s closure. Knoedler and its former director claim they were duped by the forgeries of paintings by Rothko, Motherwell and Pollock, among others, as much as their customers were.

The question of who should investigate authenticity remains hotly contested. “If you’re dealing with a reputable dealer and getting… promises and information, you should be able to rely on that,” said John Cahill, who represented two Knoedler plaintiffs, at the event. Adam Sheffer, the president of the Art Dealers Association of America, believes that the buyers of the Knoedler fakes could have done more. “They could have worked with the gallery to ask questions… Everyone needs to take responsibility,” he said.
