Head of Sales
Tagsmart are looking for a Head of Sales to lead the sales function of our growing team. We have just raised £500k of investment and this new role is critical to our future growth and success. We’re looking for a candidate who can supercharge our sales and grow as we grow.
The Head of Sales role will involve maintaining strong relationships with existing customers (artists, studios and galleries) and growing the core business by building new strategic partnerships and signing new key accounts. This role will also support the scaling of Tagsmart Connect, a new product we launched in September 2018 that connects artists and studios with online retailers so they can sell their work through additional channels. The Head of Sales will initially be responsible for at least one direct report and reports directly into the Managing Director.
We’re growing the art market by building technologies that help artists, galleries and collectors trade art with trust. We launched in 2016 and have since created a suite of products for the art world: we now issue conservator-approved DNA tags for almost all types of artworks, we have highly secure Certificates of Authenticity and our online platform is a free digital cataloging service that triple-locks artwork provenance records when used alongside our physical products.
Although we’re a young company, we were the only business to be highlighted in the 2017 Deloitte Art Report as offering art authentication services. We already have 23,000 artworks on our platform attributed to over 800 artists and we’ve tagged and certificated more than 11,000 works. More than 400 artists have registered to use our new Connect service, which launched in September 2018. Our key clients include Denis O’Regan and the David Bowie Estate, Bambi, Idris Khan, Gary Hume, Marc Quinn, Art Republic and Own Art.
Responsibility for maintaining the successful relationships that Tagsmart has already built up with artists, publishers, print manufacturers and online dealers.
Build strategic partnerships to support our long term growth: e.g. with studios, dealers (online & offline), auction houses, publishers and manufacturers.
Proactively seek out and bring on new key accounts.
Line management responsibilities for at least one existing member of the commercial team.
Showcase and demonstrate our solutions in a non-technical way to existing customers and prospects.
Be an extensive networker and represent the company at key industry events, conferences and Art Fairs.
Belief in our purpose: a positive outlook and the ability to evangelise our vision at every opportunity.
Results-focused: you only measure yourself by what you have actually done and the metrics you have moved.
Evidence of building relationships and closing commercial agreements: at least 4-6 years experience in sales and account management or similar.
Commercially-minded, strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail, particularly when it comes to managing new customer acquisition.
Very good communication skills and high emotional intelligence. Must be confident dealing with senior external stakeholders, e.g. from mid-level to senior management and top tier artists and their studios.
Good understanding of technology and the ability to present the underlying Tagsmart product, its current capabilities and potential new applications to different audiences.
Highly organised - with a creative streak!
Desire to be part of a fast-growing start-up with big ambitions.
Experience in the art market.
Marketing and/or PR experience or exposure.
Pay & benefits:
Base salary £40-£47.5k, dependent on experience.
Performance-related bonus or participation in our Options scheme (please note the latter is pending while we finalise our investment round).
