22 National Gallery of Australia objects have 'questionable' provenance

Former Justice of the High Court of Australia, Susan Crennan was appointed to review 36 objects in the NGA collection in the wake of the controversial fraud case surrounding a 12th century bronze statue, Shiva as Lord of the Dance.

Her report, provided to the Gallery on 23 October but only released to the public today, found almost two thirds – 22 of the 36 objects she examined – did not have satisfactory provenance documentation. Fourteen of the objects came from the same source as the stolen Shiva.
